Microfiche / Microfilm

The Microfiche/film collection is arranged by microfiche call number. Various materials have been published on microfiche, including serials, reports, scientific data, maps, bibliographies. A few of the large microfiche sets include:
  • U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report series (Microfiche 1750), which contains report from 1971 to the present.
  • Hourly Precipitation Data / National Climatic Data Center
  • Monthly Climatic Data / National Climatic Data Center
  • Water Resources Investigations Reports /U.S. Geological Survey

Many maps are also on microfiche or microfilm.

Some of our heavily used microfiche sets include:
  • Land ownership maps of 19th century U.S. counties
  • Ward maps of pre-1900 U.S. cities
  • County Assessor map and real estate data for Alameda, Contra Costa and San Francisco counties
  • U.S. Bureau of Land Management original plat maps for townships in northern California
  • Various set of foreign topographic surveys and nautical charts

  • Our highest used Microfilm set is a collection of Sanborn Fire Insurance maps for California cities.

  • Index to Microfilm 77648: a collection of Fire Insurance maps for 225 cities and towns in California, in the Sanborn Map Co. Archives, mapped between early 1900's to 1990.
