[letter to Dorothy Quick, 26 August 1907]
Clemens kept up a lively correspondence with a number of young friends, including 10-year-old Dorothy Quick. This illustrated 1907 letter includes his drawing of the "Rabbit Family" and another of "Deer" with his explanation:
"There were several of them. They came down hill from the woods above the house, & stopped a while behind the kitchen to look at the cook. You can see by their eager expression & enthusiastic delight, that they had never seen a cook before."
